Lhaviyani Atoll boasts more than 50 world-class diving sites and, despite its proximity to Male, still retains the traditional Maldivian atmosphere. Here the local island communities still rely mainly on fishing.

Cocoon is the perfect place to experience the most charismatic megafauna in the Maldives. You can encounter manta rays, turtles, humphead wrasse and grey reef sharks. Cocoon is also home to a professional diving centre, where you can take your first dive in spectacular surroundings, or enjoy the atoll’s most exciting diving trips if you’ve already mastered the sport.

Where to eat in Cocoon?

Cocoon Island has 3 restaurants and 2 bars. Among them you will find options for all tastes, all of them offering quality products and very good service. On our trip to Cocoon we chose the Octopus Restaurant, the Kurum Bar and the Loabiloabi bar, and we loved them. However, here are all the options so that you can select the one that best suits your needs.

  • Octopus Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It usually has international recipes, adapting to all guests’ tastes.
  • Kurum Bar is a bar located very close to the children’s club. It is the ideal place to have a drink after dinner.
  • The Loabiloabi bar is open all day and specialises in local and delicious cocktails that always impress the guests.
  • Palm Square is a restaurant that makes grilled recipes. You will find top quality fish and meat and you will be able to dine right on the beach; a unique experience.
  • Manta is a favourite among couples, as it allows you to dine under the moonlight. The menu is also à la carte.

Tips for your trip to Cocoon, Maldives

  • Don’t forget to bring sun cream and mosquito repellent.
  • Plugs in the Maldives have three prong, so don’t forget to pack an adaptor.
  • Be very careful not to damage marine and aquatic ecosystems, as a simple breakage of a small piece of coral can kill it, and they take dozens of years to develop.
  • Avoid removing corals and shells from their natural habitat, as this can have serious repercussions on the ecosystem.
  • The official currency in the Republic of the Maldives is the Maldivian Rupee (MVR), better known as Rufiyaa. However, all transactions can be made in US dollars or by credit card.
  • The official time in the Maldives is GMT+5, i.e. 4 hours more than in Spain during the winter and 3 hours more during the summer.
  • Make sure you take out good insurance before you leave for the Maldives.

To get to Cocoon you will have to fly to Malé International Airport and then travel by seaplane or speedboat to Cocoon Island. Cocoon Maldives is about 30 minutes by seaplane from the international airport.

The high season in the Maldives is from November to April, so it is best to avoid these months if you are looking to travel as cheaply as possible to the Maldives.
