The Torre Agbar is, without a doubt, one of the most symbolic and well-known buildings in Barcelona. As well as being a world-renowned monument, this building is one of the most visited by locals and travellers alike.

History of the Torre Agbar in Barcelona

The Torre Agbar, whose name is an acronym for Aigües de Barcelona, was built in 2005 and on Avenida Diagonal. This impressive structure has 34 floors, reaching a height of more than 145 metres, which is why you can see it from almost anywhere in the city.

This tower was created by the famous French architect Jean Nouvel, who gave it a peculiar bullet-shaped structure, inspired by the peaks of the mountain of Montserrat. Any time of day is a good time to visit this monument, although we recommend visiting it at night, when the tower is illuminated in different colours creating a real visual spectacle.

Architecturally, the Agbar Tower is a masterpiece. Its façade is made of glass slats with adjustable louvres, each one a different colour. This tower is the entrance to the tech district of the city of Barcelona, sharing space with some of the most technologically advanced companies in the area.

How much does it cost to climb the Agbar Tower?

It’s not currently possible to visit inside, as it’s in the process of being purchased to convert into a hotel. However, you can visit it if you take the Architecture and City tour. The price of this tour is approximately €42 and includes a guide.

When you have finished visiting the Torre Agbar, you can enjoy a pleasant lunch or dinner in one of the many restaurants in the area.

How to get to the Torre Agbar?

You can get to the Agbar Tower by different means of transport from anywhere in Barcelona.

– You can get there by metro, specifically line 1, and get off at the Glòries stop.
– Another option is to take the bus, on lines 7, g0, 92, 192 or H12.
– Finally, you can go by tram, taking line 4 and getting off at the Glòries stop.

What time do they light up the Torre Agbar?

The Torre Agbar’s lighting schedule varies depending on the time of year. If you visit Barcelona during the summer (from 1 April to 30 September), the lights are switched on from 21:00 to 24:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. On the other hand, if you visit the city in winter (from 1 October to 31 March), the lights are switched on from 20:00 to 23:00.
