Between 1254 and 1256, Alfonso the Wise gave the street its curious name of cuchillería (cutlery) due to the arms and knives shops located in this street. Plaza de la Virgen Blanca
Today, the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca is one of the most important places in the city. In the square is the unique plant sculpture of “Vitoria-Gasteiz”. This sculpture is 7 metres long and 3 metres high, and was installed in 2012 in honour of Vitoria’s election as European Green Capital. Plaza de la Burullería
This square was built at the end of the 20th century and is what used to be the old medieval necropolis of Gasteiz.
