Things to see in Fuerteventura
Corralejo Dunes
The Corralejo Dunes, as the name suggests, are a group of dunes located within the Corralejo Natural Park. This impressive natural formation is one of the most beautiful places to see in Fuerteventura.
These sandy formations have their origin in a process of disintegration and pulverisation of different marine elements such as shells. You can access the dunes very easily, as their entire length is divided in two by a road that you can drive along without any problems. You can immerse yourself in an impressive arid environment while admiring the sea in the distance. And if you’re a surfer, you can even go to one of the beaches and enjoy surfing like never before, making it one of your favourite places in Fuerteventura!
Ajuy Caves
The Ajuy Caves are considered a Natural Monument and are one of the most famous sites in Fuerteventura Spain. With enormous geological and historical value, in these caves you can learn more about the past of the Canary Islands.
To get to the Ajuy Caves, you have to enter through the Play de Ajuy and follow the path that runs along the cliff. Along the way you will come across different fossil dunes, some of the oldest on the island. If you continue along the route, you will find other equally characteristic features such as the remains of lime kilns. Finally you will arrive at the famous Ajuy Caves, where you will be fascinated by their size, created by a lava flow. Don’t forget to take your camera!
See the Calderón Hondo
Calderón Hondo is one of the seven volcanoes of Bayuyo, and is considered to be the best preserved. One of the best things to do in Fuerteventura is, without a doubt, a trip to the top of the volcano to enjoy spectacular views of the whole island.
Located just a short distance from a small village called Lajares, the route to the Calderón Hondo volcano is a comfortable 5 kilometre path. The summit is only 278 metres high, so you won’t have much trouble getting to the top. What’s more, you’ll be fascinated by its imposing 70-metre-deep crater, not to mention the views you’ll be able to enjoy of the whole island.
See Península de Jandía in Fuerteventura Spain
The Jandía Peninsula is at the southern tip of the island and is one of the places that should be at the top of your list of things to see in Fuerteventura. It is one of the three peninsulas connected to the Canary archipelago through a sandy isthmus.
You will be able to enjoy incredible natural wonders as you walk around the area, where you will mainly find an impressive volcanic caldera, the lower half of which is already submerged under the sea. In addition, on this peninsula you will find some of the top beaches for locals and travellers alike. Among them is Cofete Beach, where you can enjoy absolute tranquillity, partly due to its difficult access. On the other hand, we recommend visiting “La Pared”, an impressive archaeological site.

Visit Betancuria in Fuerteventura
One of the first places you must see in Fuerteventura is the beautiful village of Betancuria. This small town was the first to be founded in the Canary Islands after the arrival of the conquistadors, which is why it was named after Jean de Bethencourt.
Located in the west of the island, Betancuria is full of history and culture. During your visit, we recommend visiting the beautiful Church of Santa María, the first cathedral in the Canary Islands. Immerse yourself in a rural atmosphere while you walk through its most iconic places, as well as its pleasant streets with white architecture, its bars and even its little souvenir shops. You will be delighted!
La Concha Beach
La Concha Beach is considered one of the best beaches in Fuerteventura Spain, which is why we are not surprised to learn that it has been awarded a Blue Flag. In this incredible paradise you can enjoy a smooth sandy beach and waters that look like something out of a movie.
Despite not being very long, this beach is protected by a coral reef, making it an ideal place for those who love diving or snorkelling. In its depths you will be able to observe the abundant marine wildlife. You can then take a stroll to the far left and reach some of the small coves located right next to it, better known as “Los Lagos”.

What to do in Fuerteventura Spain with children?
Las Palomitas Beach
Playa de las Palomitas is one of the most iconic and striking places to see on the island of Fuerteventura. The name of this beach is due to the abundance of formations known as rhodoliths that have the appearance of popcorn (palomitas).
As it is such a characteristic place, it has become a very crowded area that is also a threat to its natural heritage, so it is important that you respect the place and do not take these “popcorn” home with you. Even so, you can still get some impressive photos of the little ones with the sea in the background and a huge set of these white rhodoliths with this characteristic shape, which will fascinate you!
Lobos Island in Fuerteventura Spain
The island of Lobos is considered to be one of the favourite little natural paradises of the people of Fuerteventura. As well as enjoying the practically unspoilt nature thanks to the restrictions on the influx of tourists, on this island you will find an endless number of things to do.
Due to the visitor system in place since 2019, you will only have 4 hours to visit the island. As this is not a long time, you can spend this time enjoying the island’s beaches and its incredible crystal-clear waters, or you can go into the wilderness and discover the volcanoes, wetlands and lighthouses scattered along the coast. The visiting hours are in the morning from 10:00 to 14:00, or in the afternoon from 14:00 to 18:00. You cannot leave Fuerteventura without visiting this island.

The Betancuria Rural Park is the largest natural space in Fuerteventura Spain. With an area of 16,000 hectares, you can enjoy a wonderful family day out in the middle of the desert landscape that is characteristic of this Canary Island.
