History of the Palau de la Música Catalana
The Palau de la Música Catalana, unlike many landmarks designed by the well-known Gaudí, is the work of the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. This impressive concert hall is a popular venue, especially for lovers of good music.
Such is its artistic and musical value that the Palau was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and is one of the places you can’t miss if you’re visiting Barcelona. Its structure is made of iron with glass walls, which allows light to enter the hall. Its beautiful design denotes a clear Catalan modernist style.
The interior of the Palau is delicately decorated with floral patterns, creating a true visual spectacle. In addition to the main hall, you’ll also find a small 600-seat underground auditorium, better known as the Petit Palau, as well as a wonderful restaurant called El Mirador del Palau where you can enjoy a good lunch or dinner before or after a performance. Other rooms you must visit are the impressive foyer and the beautiful Sala Luis Millet, which you will see during your guided tour.
Historic events have taken place inside this beautiful monument, such as Els Fets del Palau or the many visits of famous people in the world of show business, from conductors to performers such as Daniel Barenboim or Arthur Rubinstein.
The venue is also perfectly equipped to offer a spectacular musical experience, so you can enjoy performances with clear, clean sound for both symphony orchestras and choirs. You’ll be able to appreciate the full range and nuances of the sound!
