Things to see in Ramla Bay Malta

Ramla Bay Beach

As mentioned above, Ramla Bay beach is one of the most popular beaches in the whole of Malta. It is located on the island of Gozo, making it easily accessible and well connected by public transport.

What makes this beach so special is without a doubt its peculiar reddish sand, which has earned it the name of “orange beach“. Although it is not particularly large, this beach offers an idyllic setting where you can enjoy absolute peace and quiet. You can spend a wonderful day at the beach with spectacular views and a tranquillity that you won’t find on many beaches in Malta. Not to be missed!

Calypso Cave

Calypso’s Cave is one of the most visited and interesting spots in the area and is located just a short distance from Ramla Bay in Malta. It is the perfect place to visit after spending some quality time at the beach, especially if you are a fan of Greek mythology.

Legend has it that this cave is the famous cave of Ogygia, which appears in Homer’s famous Odyssey. The story tells how the nymph Calypso held Ulysses captive inside the cave for seven years, a prisoner of love. You can walk along a path for just over 100 metres that leads to the lowest part of the cave. Once you have finished your visit, we recommend going to the Ramla Bay viewpoint to admire a landscape that will leave you speechless.

Beaches near Ramla Bay

Ramla Bay beach is truly spectacular, but don’t forget that you can access other beaches close by if you want a bit of a change of scenery. Here are a couple that you’ll love almost as much as Ramla Bay.

First of all, we recommend San Blas Beach, located in San Blas Bay, just 9 minutes away by car. This beach enjoys absolute tranquillity, as it is not the easiest to get to, so people prefer to go to other types of beaches. Despite not having many facilities, you can find a beach bar where you can stop to eat or have a drink, all with spectacular views of the sea.

Another beach you can visit is Ghar Qawqla, also just a 9-minute drive away. The most characteristic feature of this beach is the famous stone overlooking the water, where locals and travellers alike come to jump off every summer. There is a small stall where you can buy food and drink, and if that wasn’t enough, this beach has a great parasol and sun lounger rental service.

Visit the Tal Mixta Cave

Another cave to visit on your trip to Ramla Bay is the Tal Mixta Cave, one of the most beautiful and interesting caves in Malta. Although it’s not particularly easy to access, it’s definitely worth a visit and you’ll be fascinated by the views!

To get there, you will have to hire a car and park it when you feel the drive is getting rough. You’ll have to navigate through a number of narrow, unpaved paths, but after a short walk you’ll finally reach the cave. It is a spectacular natural “window” that offers breathtaking views of the whole of Ramla Bay. Another way to get there is to take the small uphill path that starts at the beach – you won’t regret visiting it!

Where to eat in Ramla Bay?

The first place we recommend to eat in Ramla Bay is Il-Kcina tar-Ramla Restaurant. In addition to having an unbeatable location right on the beach in Ramla Bay, here you can find different dishes with fresh, local ingredients to enjoy a good lunch or dinner in front of the sea.

Another place to visit in Ramla Bay is Rose’s Bar Restaurant, also with unbeatable views of the sea. You can have lunch or dinner for good value for money without having to stray far from the beach. What more could you ask for?
