Passport: To enter Costa Rica, you need a passport with a minimum validity of six months from the date of entry into the country. Visa: A visa is required for some visitors, while others can obtain a tourist card upon arrival. Additionally, you may need to present a round-trip ticket and proof of sufficient funds for your stay. Certificate: No vaccination certificate or negative COVID-19 test is required to enter the country. Vaccines: No mandatory vaccines are required, but it is recommended to be up to date with hepatitis A and B, typhoid, and rabies vaccines, especially if visiting rural areas or having contact with animals. Safety: It is recommended to avoid certain areas and exercise caution in crowds, especially in large cities. It is important to follow the recommendations of local authorities and check security updates. Health: Preventive measures against mosquito bites are advised, as there is a risk of dengue and other insect-borne diseases. It is recommended to have international medical insurance as private healthcare can be expensive. There is no public health system comparable to that of many Western countries. Medical Insurance: It is strongly recommended to have comprehensive international medical insurance when traveling to Costa Rica. Consular authorities cannot cover medical expenses incurred by foreign tourists. Private healthcare can be costly. Risk Zone: It is advised to avoid the conflictive areas of urban centers (for example, the "red zone" of San José -streets 14 and 6, Av. Central and 7-). This recommendation extends to all urban centers during the night.
