The former Mazagan, today known as El Jadida, was one of the most important colonies of Portugal<\/strong> due to its strategic position for maritime trade. In 1769 it was taken by Mohammed III of Morocco, who gave it the name of El Jadida, the city we know today. An impressive walled fortress, protected by Unesco since 2004,<\/strong> still remains from the Portuguese legacy, but that’s not all there is to see in El Jadida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
