Holguín is a city characterised by its wide distribution of parks. The most famous is definitely the Calixto García Park. It is the central park of the municipality, part of Holguín’s identity, because it is the meeting point for all Holguineros. Around it are some of the most important buildings in the city, as well as commercial buildings, cinemas, theatres and hotels. It also serves as a stage for all kinds of local activities: fairs, festivals, carnivals, student events, workers’ demonstrations and political meetings.

Located in the centre of the rotunda, it was imported from Italy and unveiled in 1916. This imposing monument is accompanied by a second statue at the feet of the general symbolising freedom.
On the other hand, there is the Monument to the Mothers by the sculptor Mario Santi, awarded the first prize in a provincial competition at the time of the Republic.
